Opening the Magic Diary of the Dickens Hero
Thinking about what Dickens would write today surely requires observing him as an outstanding individual noted for his creative mind and philanthropic views. Would Dickens be deeply inspired and fascinated with the latest achievements and innovations of the twenty-first century or would he find himself in despair if he witnessed the established capitalistic system and social injustice? Well, perhaps it would be quite hard for Dickens to get used to typing on a computer keyboard, so he would definitely stick to pen and paper for some time. But what would he write? Whenever the absence of certain facts seems to let you down, imagination is the right tool to apply to. So why don't we look through the diary of the Dickens hero? Let's hope he won't mind.

"A message to my creator written in my diary which is as fictitious as I am

I don't know what awaits me in the following chapters you are going to write but I do know that the course of events is beyond my control. Your ardent flow of thoughts finds its rest on sheets of paper and gives life to creatures like me. And all those words that were so elaborately placed side by side were enough to give me life and make it full of misery and despair. I am just a little child but I have already faced discrimination, social injustice, I have been persecuted and left outcast. You spare no effort to describe my sufferings and all those pages written by your almighty hand can serve as evidence. As I continue to live in your mind, you let me understand that my existence is itself fictitious. It causes even deeper pain. After all, you've been generous enough to grant me high intelligence and virtuous character. Anyway, I can't find proper explanation to this. You want me to live in the so-called twenty-first century and make my moral principles collide with the vices of the modern society. I don't see point in this and as my sufferings continue, I can do nothing but despise you.

Another message to the same person written in the same diary

First of all I'd like to apologize to you for my critical approach and express my utmost gratitude. You are a true genius of thought, a bearer of infinite wisdom and a great moral mentor. Through the course of time you turned me from a soft-hearted child into a courageous young man. You made me suffer as a child but your intentions are clear to me now. Many leading heroes of your novels are children because only their fragile hands can depict the outer world so accurately on the imaginary canvas of the plot. Only their virtue, impartial way of thinking and urge to discover can give a true reflection of the society and reveal its whole beauty and ugliness. Literature has always served as a lantern to guide people through the darkness of life. That's why you've granted me the rare ability to influence the actions of others. The society regards me as a leader and together we try to find solutions to today's issues. I use all the advantages of modern lifestyle to achieve my goals as your admiration for technology and diverse means of communication is reflected in my actions. You know how to create an appealing atmosphere for your readers and fill my life with marvelous adventures. I don't know what will happen in the end and I doubt if I have the right to ask. But for now I wish to thank you for creating me. I live in the hearts of many people who realize the value of literature. I understand the importance of the burden I am entitled to carry. Being a representative of what's considered to be ideal won't be easy for me unless I have a mentor like you."

The thoughts driven from the heart of the hero spread light on many questions. But we can draw another important conclusion: Dickens heroes live among us. There are few of them and they need our support. We just have to help them reveal themselves.
